Boys Carlos Boluda Purkiss d. Anton Volkov - 2/6 7/5 6/2 Tennis Europe Junior Masters champion, favourite and #1 seed Carlos Boluda Purkiss from Spain eventually overcame a nervous start (as he did in the ¼ and ½ finals) and loss of the first set at 2/6, to a much taller (and thinner) Russian and the #2 seed, Anton Volkov (recent winner of the Junior Kremlin Cup) who got off to a good start in a match with good rhythm on both sides. Carlos changed his tactics in the second set, he managed to destabilise Anton by slicing the ball and frequently varying his game, to conclude the 2nd set, with difficulty at 7/5. In the third set, Carlos was playing with confidence and Anton was loosing his power and precision as the game was drawing to a conclusion, but the 6/2 in the final set is a little severe considering the intensity of this match. Bravo Carlos, keep on the same path as another Spaniard, Rafael Nadal, who won the TIM Essonne in 1999. Girls Daria Gavrilova d. Aleksandra Krunich - 6/3 4/6 6/2 Daria, who lost in an “all Russian final” of the Junior Kremlin Cup last month against top seed Ksenia Kirilova, has accomplished a brillant series of victories, with a great win over the young Serb Aleksandra Krunich (who beat Kirilova in the ½ finals). Seeded only #10, Daria successively beat 4 of the top 5 seeds : #5 (Miko - 7/5 6/1), #2 (Juhaszova - 6/4 4/6 6/2), #3 (Radu - 6/3 7/6) and #4 in the finale (Krunich - 6/3 4/6 6/2). The first set got off to a good start for Daria, very determined and full of confidence, quite the contrary to Aleksandra who was a little nervous and less at ease. The 2nd set was an even mixture of winning shots and frequent mistakes; the Serb gave away fewer points than the Russian and came back strongly to win the set 6/4. In the 3rd set Daria found her concentration again and went on to a solid and well deserved victory, to become the 6th Russian Girl to Win the TIM Essonne... the first one was a certain Elena Dementieva in 1994!
