More information about Rhonda De Lang (NED)
Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Rhonda Bright de Lang, an up and coming athlete in the sport of Tennis. Tennis is currently my passion. It needs no introduction but I can briefly mention that it is a sport immersed in tradition and history.
My goal is a simple one. I
plan on becoming the best tennis player ever--or I should say of my generation,
as are my idols, Venus and Serena Williams of theirs.
Already at my age, I am being compared to a young Venus Williams. I plan on
being a world champion in women's tennis. I also plan to someday represent my
country as an Olympian. I want to be a well respected and contributing member
of my countries and my community.
Please not that I said 'countries'. I am a Dutch Liberian, or some might say, a
Liberian Dutch. I hold passports to both countries.
I was actually born in the Ivory Coast, West Africa but only because there was
civil war in my original homeland, Liberia at that time. The Ivory Coast
offered far better medical facilities than Liberia and so my mother decided to
relocate there as a refugee. Subsequently, we moved to the Netherlands where a
new path was carved in my life, one which I embrace whole heartily. As a
result, I find myself on the brink of achieving a dream that was conceived in
the earlier years of my life in Holland; the dream of becoming a champion in
the sport that I love.
I also have hopes of representing my city of Nieuwegein where I have already
been honored and given high visibility. Please see in one of the attachments a
photograph of a banner hanging in the town square with my image on it. I felt
proud of this recognition and honor. There have been several news articles
written about me and I have made a few television appearances as well.

Becoming a champion is my dream.
I will have the opportunity to fulfill it.
I will work hard to succeed.
It is due to unfortunate circumstances that I find myself in this predicament.
The Liberian civil war dealt my family located there a devastating blow financially, and with my father in Nieuwegein devoting all of his time, energy and resources into getting me through various stages toward my tennis career,
now i am training hard to make my dream come true.
